Wellness:
Wellness is more than about physical health and good living. It is also not about a state of living in bliss either, nor about living a life without pain, tears, suffering or problems. These things are part of life and in the long run gives us more understanding, builds strength and character and makes us compassionate towards others undergoing what we once went through. In fact if taken in the right spirit, it makes life richer for us as well as for others.
We live in pill popping times, when there seems to be a pill for everything -for relieving pain, for loosing weight, for boosting memory, for "improving" sex lives, for reducing "unmanageable" stress etc.. We live in an age of shortcuts, "quick wealth" and of microwave cooking. Unfortunately, as with all things visible & invisible, only time can truly make a difference. That which is acquired over time has a greater level of permanence accompanied by the satisfaction of having worked and struggled for it. The next time you needlessly pop a pill (some times you might need to!) for something as trivial as a body ache or headache, try and listen to what your body is trying to tell you. Maybe you pushed yourself too hard and only need to rest for the day, or your body has been hurt and needs rest to heal. Taking a pain killer suppresses only the pain -you might unknowingly do permanent damage to that part of your body which was crying out for rest. Every time you pop an antibiotic (once again -sometimes you must), bear in mind that you are also destroying beneficial bacteria living symbiotically in your gut and not giving your immune system sufficient time to do its job. The more you let your immune system work, the stronger it gets. Our bodies were designed to heal and are in perfect harmony with the rest of creation. I'm more terrified of synthetic chemicals which the body doesn't know how to handle than bacteria and viruses which have inhabited the planet with us for as long as we can recollect. In fact, they were probably here before we were! Our defense mechanism, (in a healthy body) knows how to deal with them. I believe that vaccination is an on going thing which happens naturally and is not a one time shot.
Wellness is also about eating all of the right things in season and in the right quantity. They need to be eaten fresh in their natural states -grown naturally without any accelerants or genetic manipulation and without being refined. Meat and milk should be from grass fed, free range cattle, and the same goes for eggs, poultry and meat. This way the animals enjoy life as they were intended to, eat natural diets and are healthier than stall fed cattle -whose meats are higher in fat content. We also don't know what highly stressed out, captive and abused animals accumulate in their flesh.
Finally, wellness also encompasses making peace with God and those around you. (This is covered in another section under ethereal stuff ) Hope you find this collection of posts helpful!
Review: Hohner Golden Melody 10 hole diatonic harmonica
Its been a while since I played a harmonica, around 30 years at least. I remember the black Hero harmonica that dad had. In fact most of my friends who had harmonicas had Heros. Its quality was pretty good and I was surprised to find out a few days back that it was/is made in [...]
Calotropis gigantea/procera
Glossary This plant is an old friend on account of its familiarity since childhood, thanks to its wide distribution all over India. I remember this plant as it is pretty easy to identify. It is covered in a whitish powder and when a part of the plant is broken off, it exudes latex ( a [...]
Drumstick leaf fried rice
The drumstick tree, as it is known in India or the Moringa Oleifera, is a well known tree. The stick like seed pod is commonly cooked, the leaves although being highly nutritious are seldom used. Even though we had a tree by our window all through our childhood years in Bombay, my mother, in spite [...]
Review: Chico bag’s Bottle Sling
When I bought my 40 oz (approx 1.1 liter) Klean Kanteen, I also bought a neoprene jacket made by Built NY from them. It took me quite some time -almost a year to get used to the neoprene jacket (because I was carrying my Sigg around) as it was a bit different from the simple [...]
Himachal’s water powered flour mills
Renewable energy is what I’m passionate about and an opportunity to live off the grid would be a dream come true. Among known renewable energy sources, solar photovoltaic cell technology is way down on my list of favorites, as it is dependent on industrial manufacture. In addition to that, broken/disposed solar cells are not something [...]
Water Bottle shootout : Klean Kanteen vs Sigg
Its over a year (or is it two?) since I gave up plastic. My biggest dilemma at that time was carrying my drinking water without leeching any chemicals into it. On searching the net I finally short listed these two bottles. It was just a matter of who accepted credit card payments and shipped to [...]
Fear and the bacterium
Think Louis Pasteur and what comes to mind is pasteurization, vaccination and his discovery of microbes, BUT…
